Abstract
This is a report of a modification of transtracheal bronchography which is safe, effective, simple, and rapid. A plastic extension tube is used to connect the metal needle and the syringe containing the dye. This avoids the trauma to the trachea often incident to the unavoidable movement of a needle when it is attached directly to a syringe from which viscous material is being expressed. This method was used for more than seven years in 347 cases with more uniformly good bronchograms than were previously obtained by the transpharyngeal catheter method. The technique used is described in detail, and the advantages, disadvantages, and contraindications are discussed.
