Abstract
Hypotension, oliguria, hemo-concentration and acidosis characterize the stage at which canine endotoxin shock becomes irreversible. A lethal outcome at this stage can be prevented in the majority of dogs with a large dose of hydro-cortisone followed by a pressor agent, such as metaraminol. Although the blood pressure can be stabilized under these circumstances, oliguria and anuria due to reduced renal blood flow, still pose a problem. Since hydralazine increases renal blood flow the drug was used in addition to hydrocortisone and metaraminol. This combination resulted in a good flow of urine, and hydralazine probably contributed to the survival of the animals.
