Abstract
The Percus–Yevick equation for the local density of a gas in contact with a flat solid surface is used to calculate the adsorption characteristics of argon, methane and nitrogen on graphite. The calculations are performed accepting the Boltzmann-averaged potential and the Lennard-Jones (12, 6) potential for gas–surface and for gas–gas interactions, respectively. Theoretical adsorption isotherms and spreading pressures are compared with experimental results. Keywords
