Abstract
The abscission of flowers and immature fruits (until completion of last drop) was preceded by differentiation of an absciss layer in the basal portion of the pedicel. Cell separation followed dissolution of the middle lamella. No absciss layer was differentiated in pedicels that survived the last drop. Abscission of mature pedicels was initiated independently in the pith and cortex and was not preceded by cell division. Separation followed the dissolution of pectic and cellulose lamellae in walls of preexisting mature cells. Vessels and fibers were ruptured by mechanical force. This publication has 1 reference indexed in Scilit:
