Abstract
This paper gives a comparison of the critical frequencies for flicker as seen in the test object and in the visual field surrounding it. A range in both intensity and area of test object was used. Two demonstrations that flicker in the field outside of the test object is instituted by stray light rather than by retinal interaction are described. The critical fusion frequencies of the field in relation to those of the test object indicate that after flicker is instituted by stray light, some sort of interaction between the two areas of the retina stimulated at different intensities helps to determine critical fusion frequency of the field at least near the test object.
