Abstract
Patients [98] more than 65 yr of age with aortic valve replacement were reviewed. Ball valves [24] and disc valves [74] were inserted in their aortic orifice. Actuarial analysis of survival in these patients showed that the operative risk was slightly higher in elder than in younger patients. The survival curve for the following yr for those who had disc valve implantation ran parallel to younger patients; those who had ball valve implantation showed a more rapid fall in survival after 3 yr. After 10 yr only 30% of patients with ball valve transplantation were alive. Keywords
