Abstract
The relationship between weight and l. dorsi area was studied using 354 Hereford, Angus and Shorthorn bulls ranging in age from 104 to 686 days. Equations were developed which could be used for evaluating l. dorsi area in replacement bulls. General agreement existed between values for l. dorsi areas reported in the literature and calculated l. dorsi areas obtained by using the equations developed in this study. A method was outlined whereby the l. dorsi area from a bull of x kg. live weight could be corrected to the l. dorsi area of a bull weighing 348 kg. live weight. It is suggested that replacement bulls meet the predicted l. dorsi areas outlined in this study when ultrasonics is used in live animal evaluation. Copyright © 1967.
