Abstract
When ingested as such, free fatty acids were as rapidly absorbed by rats as the readily hydrolyzable tri-and diglycerides. Evidence from the residual contents of the intestine indicated that the absorptive rate is more related to the degree of hydrolysis of the fat than to its state of emulsification. Fat supplements of histidine and ethionine, which accelerate the lipolytic process, were associated with a more rapid absorption of the fat. Only small amounts of fat are absorbed in forms other than free fatty acids.
