Abstract
The author presents a class of fuzzy operators which aim at extending the application range of fuzzy techniques to image processing applications not related to pattern recognition. Implementation aspects and specific design techniques based on genetic algorithms are discussed. An application concerning the design of a fuzzy operator for edge-preserving smoothing of an image is described in detail. Keywords
