Abstract
CD-ROM, powerful database transference and journal scanning technology is merely five years in development yet its services have spread to the ends of the world It is not supposed to supplant online and library services but to supple ment them But in Afnca where hookup to online services is technologically infeasible and sustained subscription to current journals is economically untenable, CD-ROM stands alone and will reign alone for a long time to come Its advent to Afnca has brought euphoria and a great relief to a long felt need This should be encouraged further by the intervention of Interna tional Educational Agencies
