Are Old People Conservative?

Abstract
The proposition that American older people are politically more conservative than the middle aged is tested, drawing on the National Election Studies from 1952 to 1980, and employing alternative conceptions of conservatism: identification with ideological groups; voting and party identification; opinions about issues; and policy priorities. Results vary, but in general the differences between the two groups appear small.
