Abstract
The percentage of Agama s. stellio with broken tails is low compared to other lizards, and is higher in males than in females. The tail has a low energy content. Agama s. stellio has a tail retention adaptation as do other lizards which use the tail for climbing. The tail regenerates little or not at all, possibly because breaks occur intervertebrally, intravertebral fracture planes not being present. Keywords
