QUANTITATIVE ANTIBODY STUDIES IN MAN. I. THE EFFECT OF ADRENAL INSUFFICIENCY AND OF CORTISONE ON THE LEVEL OF CIRCULATING ANTIBODIES 1

Abstract
Quantitative immunochemical studies were carried out in man using pneumococcal capsular polysaccharides as antigens. 12 subjects were used as controls. C-antibody was present in all sera. Five patients with adrenal insufficiency showed no impairment of antibody response. 8 patients with untreated rheumatoid arthritis and 9 patients with rheumatoid arthritis receiving cortisone had similar antibody responses. Two patients with rheumatoid arthritis with previously elevated antibody titers showed no change in these titers on the acute or chronic admn. of cortisone.
