Abstract
A set of criteria for evaluating the potential and performance of professional construction management firms is proposed. Based on the work of the ASCE Committee on PCM, these criteria relate to a task list of PCM services. The criteria, both subjective and objective, cover each of the five phases of most construction projects. Following suggestion of criteria, a methodology for PCM evaluation is presented. This methodology includes defining the extent of evaluation required, obtaining the necessary information, and performing the evaluation. Both selection of a PCM firm for a future project and evaluating a PCM on an active project are addressed. Practical application of the criteria defined, in both selection and evaluation, is reviewed.
