Crosspolarisation for linearly and circularly polarised waves propagating through a population of ice particles on satellite-Earth paths

Abstract
General formulas are given for linear and circular crosspolarisation from a population of small, highly eccentric, ice particles forming a pure-differential-phase-shifting medium. The interaction with rain is considered and a comparison is made between linear and circular polarisation for the forthcoming ESA Orbital Test Satellite as seen from a point in the UK.
