Abstract
The field configurations with a three dimensional helical magnetic axis of constant curvature k and constant torsion kappa (k= kappa ) and with helical fields of l=1, l=2 and l=3, is investigated and the experimental results are described. The shaping of vacuum magnetic surfaces by the application of these helical fields is confirmed and the rotational transform and the shear of lines of force are determined by means of electron-beam methods. The ellipticity epsilon up to 0.4 and the triangularity Q/k up to 2.5 of the magnetic surfaces are obtained experimentally. Then the well depth of the configuration is estimated to be about 3.0 per cent in this system. Keywords
