Abstract
The use of tris(hydroxymethyl) aminomethane (Tris) for clinical electrophoresis has been investigated, both alone and in combination with Veronal buffer. The use of Tris buffer alone was regarded as unsatisfactory for clinical work. A combination of Tris and Veronal buffer with a total ionic strength of 0.07 resulted in a very satisfactory separation in approximately 1/2 the time required when using the standard Veronal buffer of 0.1 ionic strength. The properties of tris(hydroxymethyl)aminomethane are also discussed, in relation to its use as a buffer for clinical electrophoresis. Keywords
