Abstract
In this thesis experiments are described which explore the possibility of using a heavy particle external ionization source as the energy input or "pump" for the Ne-O 2 laser. Also described are the electrically excited Ne-O 2 laser and the theory behind its operation and the theory behind the "heavy particle bombarded" excited laser.
