Abstract
The lignin content of dried grasses can be measured, after prior removal of interfering phenolic materials, by dissolving the residue in 25% acetyl bromide in acetic acid and determining the absorption at 280 nm. The absorption values can also be used to predict the nutritive value of dried grasses, hays and silages. Keywords
