Abstract
The pressure dependence of the soft modes in the paraphase (boundary of the Brillouin zone, X point) and the ferrophase (center of the Brillouin zone, Γ point) is studied in the model ferroelastic crystals Hg2I2. An anomalous linear pressure dependence of the soft-mode frequency in the paraphase (p<p c ) is observed. The results obtained and the nature of the ferroelastic phase transition induced in Hg2I2 crystals by a high hydrostatic pressure are discussed. Keywords
