Abstract
Principal plant hosts of Anthonomus grandis Boheman are in 4 closely related genera of the Malvaceae: Gossypium, Cienfuegosia, Thespesia , and Hampea . After Gossypium , the most important host in the United States is Cienfuegosia drummondii (Gray) Lewt. in Southern Texas. However, the complexity of hosts increases in tropical areas. Plant species first reported herein as hosts of the boll weevil are: Gossypium harknessii Brandg., G. lobatum Gentry, G. laxum Phill., Cienfuegosia rosei Fryx., Hampea rovirosae Standl., and Pseudabutilon lozani (Rose) R. E. Fries. Keywords
