Abstract
- The excavations of the Neolithic site « El-Kowin 2 - Caracol » have documented a sedentary village of the VHIth millennium BP, occupied bx a people practising plant and animal husbandry. At 6 km from this village, another site, Qdeir I, represents a very different situation, despite its being contemporary with El-Kowm 2. It is a semi-nomadic settlement, first without building structures, then with only one or two isolated houses. What was the relationship between these two groups ? What had they in common ? Were they economically complementary to one another ? All these questions are of great relevance here, because the data concern probably the most ancient co-existence to date between nomadic and sedentary peoples in the steppic zone. Keywords
