Health Studies—Presumably Normal High School Students

Abstract
IN MANY HIGH schools in the United States, the services of a nurse are made available to the students for care of minor illnesses and emergencies. While such services often are popular with school personnel, pupils, and parents, it is difficult to assess their value in terms of meeting health needs. As part of a study of presumably normal adolescents, visits of high school students to the school nurse were analyzed. Observations included distribution of visits by student age and sex; by time of day, week, and year; by cause; and by individual patterns of visits of students in successive years. The association between high and low frequency of health room visiting and other characteristics of students were observed also.
