Abstract
The Bristol Cancer Help Centre is a long-standing pioneer in the use of nutrition within a multi-disciplinary treatment approach for cancer. The consensus document published on p. 199 of this issue, detailing nutritional and life-style guidelines for people with cancer, emerged from a seminar convened by Bristol and attended by health professionals in 1992. Thereafter, Bristol commissioned the compilation of a comprehensive database of scientific publications in the field of nutrition and cancer. This research includes epidemiological studies, laboratory and clinical research in cells, animals and humans, the interaction of nutrition with radiotherapy and chemotherapy, and educational programmes to promote improved nutritional awareness. This regularly updated database, for use by clinicians and researchers in the field, has been on-line and operational since 1993.Keywords
