Abstract
Three snubbers intended for pulsewidth modulated (PWM)-VSI inverter applications are investigated. The snubbers have some common components and reduce space and cost. Useful, simple expressions for design of the three snubbers are given. The snubbers are simulated for one phase-leg using the circuit simulator PSPICE. Simple component models are used. The simulations are compared with measurements in one phase-leg. Measurements are reported on the three snubbers in a 5 kVA IGBT PWM inverter. It is concluded that the snubbers each have different benefits, and that there is good agreement between the simulations and the measurements. Keywords
