Abstract
Hiroshima, Japan—Growing crystals of a protein for x-ray analysis of its structure is largely a matter of trial and error. But crystallographers meeting last month in Hiroshima got some good news about ways to make the process more reliable. The first detailed comparison of crystals grown in orbit with ones grown on Earth showed that space-grown crystals can approach perfection. And a clutch of new techniques presented at the meeting should speed the process of finding optimal crystal-growing conditions on Earth. Keywords
