Abstract
Histological studies reveal that the ovarian tissues in both larval and protonymphal stages of the two-spotted spider mite, Tetranychus urticae Koch, are inactive, but this region in the deutonymphal stage shows germ-cell division. The newly emerged female adult has a well developed germarium with a few oöcytes, but old adults have many oöcytes and these are in the process of maturation. Females of T. urticae when exposed to a residual 2.0% treatment of apholate and 5-fluorouracil show several changes; these include a progressive degeneration of ovarian tissues and the formation of few oöcytes with increasing age. Apparently apholate and 5-fluorouracil do not cause gross morphological effects on the testes of the male. Keywords
