Abstract
Survival of 160 colonies of Apis mellifera L. was measured in Arizona in an area where insecticides were being applied to cotton fields. At the beginning of the test, averages were determined for populations of bees in colonies; again, for colonies of the control treatment, 3 months later; for colonies covered with wet burlap, or fed pollen only, or fed pollen and given water; and, at the end of the test, for the same treatment groups and control. Populations of bees (22,700) of colonies receiving water + pollen were those of well-fed, theoretical colonies losing all field bees every 7 days.
