Abstract
A new route for fabricating large, transparent silica gel microspheres has been developed which readily permits the incorporation of a wide variety of optically active organic and inorganic species. The fluorescence behavior of several organic dye-doped silica gel microspheres as a function of varied liquid environments is examined. The fluorescence of europium and uranium in sol-gel silica microspheres is described. Uranium sensitization of europium in sol-gel silica is presented for the first time.© (1992) COPYRIGHT SPIE--The International Society for Optical Engineering.
