Abstract
The majority of reactions carried out by chemists take place in liquid solutions. Only within the last 10‐15 years, however, has it become possible to study such reactions in molecular detail. Recent advances in ultrafast lasers and in theory have made it possible to study on the molecular level the major role played by the solvent in chemical reactions. Keywords
