Abstract
A test that circumvents the complex methodology needed for determination of L/S [lecithin/sphingomyelin] ratios was developed. It was observed that the optical density at 400 nm of supernatants collected from fresh amniotic fluids centrifuged at 2000 g for 10 min correlated with L/S ratios. [Indications for amniocentesis were suspected erythroblastosis fetalis, toxemia, premature labor, chronic hypertension, intrauterine growth retardation and diabetes.].
