Abstract
The one-minute ac "hipot" test has serious disadvantages as the sole criterion for commissioning of gas-insulated switchgear. The use of an ac resonant test set to generate a 60 Hz oscillating surge is described along with experimental evidence indicating the advantages of such a test as an addition to the usual one-minute ac test. Keywords
