Abstract
Multiple-beam interferometry has been used to investigate the surfaces of x-ray irradiated KCl crystals. Within the limits of the method there is no evidence for diffusion of vacancies or ions to or from the surface to account for the observed decrease in density. The change of density thus must be attributed to an internal mechanism, a possibility which finds tentative experimental support. Keywords
