RT-PCR DETECTION OF OPIOID RECEPTOR mRNA IN DIFFERENT TISSUES

Abstract
It is known that opioid receptor genes are expressed in the CNS although some authors have also described opioid receptor expression in peripheral tissues. We have studied the expression of μ, δ and κ opioid receptor genes by RT-PCR both in CNS andin peripheral tissues. Our results show expression of these genes in all tissues studied. We have also demonstrated opioid receptor expression in peripheral blood samples. These results might be due to either what we detect is the expression of opioid receptor genes in peripheral blood orthat they are expressed in peripheral tissues.
