Abstract
New types of planning jobs generated by the current crisis in urban social policy demand innovative approaches to planning education. Real-world workshops, which involve student-faculty teams in the community, raise a number of interesting —but difficult—issues and practical problems. Although sometimes interpreted as a cost, this close involvement with social and political aspects of urban problem solving may be an opportunity for both students and staff to gain important insights. Keywords
