Abstract
Sedoheptulose-C14, with a specific activity of 3.7 uc/mg and approximately uniform labeling, has been bio-synthesized from S. spectabile. The free sugar was isolated in milligram amounts by thick paper chromatography. As by products of the procedure, C14-labeled fructose, glucose, sucrose, malic acid and citric acid were isolated also in considerable amounts. An unknown which was present in moderate amounts was tentatively identified as a fructosan on the basis of its Rf value and its hydrolysis to fructose. It was also observed that sedoheptulose-C14 was translocated down the plant stalk, as were glucose, fructose and sucrose. This publication has 7 references indexed in Scilit:
