Single Particle Scattering Functions for Latex Spheres in Water

Abstract
The angular distribution of intensity of light scattered by spherical particles whose relative index of refraction with respect to the surrounding medium is 1.20 has been computed for values of α (a size parameter=circumference of the particle divided by the wavelength of the incident beam) equal to 1.0, 2.0, 3.0, 5.0, 8.0, 10, 15, 20, 30, and 35. The results are presented in tabular form and give: (1) the intensities of the two incoherent, plane-polarized components of the scattered light, (2) one-half the sum of these two components, and (3) the real and imaginary parts of the complex functions from which the intensities are computed. Values are listed for angles of observation in the range 0° to 180°. Polar plots of one-half the sums of the two incoherent plane-polarized components versus angle are presented.
