Meningococcal Disease with Cardiac Death A Case Report

Abstract
A case is presented of a 17-year-old girl who died of fulminant, hyperacute meningococcal disease. The initial symptoms were cerebral, but a cardiac disturbance caused death. The relationship between central nervous system and heart disorders is discussed. In the present case, there was direct infiltration of the coronary arteries and myocard with meningococci. The need for careful examination of the heart before coming to conclusions as to the effect of the brain on the heart in similar cases is stressed.
