Abstract
This article examines the processes of supervision for a higher degree in social work from the point of view of the supervisor. It suggests that students have a variety of motives for doing a higher degree and start at different points. There are necessary processes to go through on the way to submitting a thesis and this is an emotional as well as an intellectual journey. Keywords
