Abstract
A class of ranked-order-based filters for the noise suppression of time-varying imagery is introduced. These temporal filters efficiently preserve image structures under motion without motion compensation preprocessing. It is shown that spatio-temporal multistage median filters (MMFs) allow for a significant improvement over both spatial MMFs and temporal median filters in image resolution and noise suppression. Keywords
