Hypoprothrombinemia Induced by Gossypol.

Abstract
Cottonseed meal or gossypol feeding causes hemorrhages in rabbits and pigs. Admn. of gossypol induced hypoprothrombinemia in rabbits and pigs. This effect did not appear in rabbits on CSM rations until about the 7th day. The delay in clotting rose to a max. about the 28th day of the feeding period. The death rate was highest when clotting time was near maximum but hemorrhages were evident in animals which died after clotting time was again about normal. High level vit. K supplementation of CSM rations inhibited the effect on prothrombin but did not prevent hemorrhages or death of the animals.
