A technique for obtaining rapid drive discrimination in the rat.

Abstract
Male rats learned a drive discrimination problem with a median of 4 1/2 errors. This rapid discrimination is attributed to the fact that the experimental design incorporates the usual features found in external discrimination problems. These were: (a) a maze design which allows the onset and termination of the hunger or thirst to occur in the learning apparatus, and (b) a motivation technique which purifies the relevant internal stimuli.
