Abstract
Embedded computer systems seem to be the antithesis offunctional language systems. Embedded systems aresmall, stand-alone, and are often forced to accept inelegantdesign compromises due to hardware cost. They run continuouslyand are reactive, that is, their primary goal is tomonitor sensors and control effectors, using observedexternal events to trigger state-changing control actions.Yet this paper describes how functional abstraction cantame the inelegance of embedded systems....Keywords
