Circadian Rhythm of Feeding by Adult White-Fringed Beetles, Graphognathus spp. (Coleoptera: Curculionidae)1

Abstract
Time-of-day feeding preference studies with Graphognathus leucoloma striatus (Buchanan) and G. peregrinus (Buchanan) showed a definite preference for night feeding. Light inhibited feeding under normal and reversed light-dark cycles and under continuous light. Results of respirometer studies of G. leucoloma indicated that oxygen consumption is greater during light hours than during the hours of darkness, indicating a degree of general inactivity during feeding, and greater activity when not feeding.
