Abstract
Absorption and fluorescence studies are reported for pyrene-3-sodium sulphonate in the inverted micellar system, didodecyldimethylammonium bromide +benzene, both with and without solubilised water. Absorption spectra, fluorescence monomer spectra and the Ham effect, triplet–triplet spectra, and the position of the excimer emission band are used as spectroscopic probes to define the position and configuration of the pyrene–sulphonate solubilisate. Measurements on the kinetics of excimer formation and on triplet state lifetimes show these micellar solutions to change both their average aggregation number and micellar configuration with changes in the concentrations of the didodecyldimethylammonium bromide, of the pyrene-3-sodium sulphonate and of water.Keywords
