Abstract
The interaction of phage type 71 Staphylococcus aureus bacteriocin with sera from humans and animals was investigated. The bactericidal activity of the bacteriocin is neutralized when the bacteriocin is incubated with unheated sera from humans, guinea pigs, and some rabbits. This neutralizing activity is heat labile, is present in the globulin and albumin fractions of sera, and is not removed after incubation with staphylococci that produce bacteriocin. Specific IgM antibodies are present in the sera of rabbits immunized with the bacteriocin. These antibodies are heat stable and can be removed by incubation with staphylococci that produce bacteriocin. Keywords
