Abstract
Three groups of 5 dogs each were used. Group 1 received kidneys subjected to 0 min of warm ischemia and no allopurinol in the preservation perfusate. Group 2 was subjected to 60 min of warm ischemia and also no allopurinol in the perfusate. Group 3 was also subjected to 60 min of warm ischemia, receiving 500 mg of parenteral allopurinol/l of perfusate, plus 100 mg/kg of allopurinol orally daily in the 10-day post-transplant period. All 5 dogs survived for 60 days, at which time they were killed and kidney biopsies were taken. All 10 dogs in groups 2 and 3 that were subjected to 60 min of warm ischemia, whether or not treated with allopurinol, died in 4-9 days (average 5 days) in the post-transplant period with a correspondingly higher serum creatinine. There was no significant difference in the serum creatinine values between groups 2 and 3 in the post-transplant period. This publication has 0 references indexed in Scilit:
