Abstract
A statistical scission model is applied to heavy-ion-induced fission. Comparison of model calculations to experimental data on fission-fragment angular distributions shows excellent agreement for systems in a large range of fissility parameter, excitation energy, and spin value. For many of these reactions, the traditional transition-state model and its extensions are inapplicable or fail to reproduce the data. Keywords
