Abstract
An icosahedral phase is obtained in rapidly cooled Al8.8Fe3.7Ce alloy. The authors do not find the decagonal phase found in samples of this alloy prepared by conventional metallurgical methods. Adding the rare earth Ce to the Al-Fe system appears to stabilise the icosahedral phase, which is not usually present in this system. Keywords
