Abstract
The plain chest film may be critical in deciding whether a seriously injured patient should undergo aortography in order to exclude traumatic aortic rupture. The roentgen findings suggestive of aortic transection reflect the presence of mediastinal bleeding. A left apical extrapleural cap is frequently seen in these patients but heretofore has not been emphasized in the literature. Keywords
